The Marine Life Center's Latest Goal: TURTLES BY CHRISTMAS.
WW Reich is poised to obtain the Certificate Of Occupancy for the hospital building; the fire protection and fire alarm systems are tested and the heat is on in the building.

William Reich started his career as a Project Manager for a large design-build firm, learning the importance of listening to the needs of the Owners while implementing the design and construction of their projects. Leading the team in the right direction and paying attention to the thousands of details will make the design build experience a positive one for each Owner.

Today, WW Reich stands as the Design Build Construction Manager of the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay, MA. At the gateway to Cape Cod, Buzzards Bay is undergoing a rejuvenation and the National Marine Life Center is the centerpiece of that effort.

The NMLC is a non-profit dedicated to the treatment of marine turtles and mammals. Its goal is to take possession of stranded aquatic life, bring the animals back to help in a hospital environment and ultimately return them to their native habitat.

WW Reich was hired by the NMLC in 2007 to oversee the construction of its pump house, which brings water to and from the hospital facility from the Cape Cod Canal. This involved some 600 lineal feet of underground directional drilling. When the old hospital’s roof partially collapsed in December of 2007, the NMLC turned to WW Reich to start the construction of its new hospital facility which would treat stranded sea turtles, and eventually seals, porpoises and whales.

This endeavor included the design of a 15,000 square foot building that had to be elevated 5 feet above the existing grade to accommodate the flood plain. But as the old building was being removed, the team encountered several feet of subgrade contaminants as well as a thick layer of peat; all of which had to be removed.

After several rounds of design revisions, WW Reich and Cosestudi Architects have designed a world class marine animal treatment facility, with further plans for a Visitor’s Center which will replace the current NMLC offices.
